Tony Burkhalter has been a member of the AFSCME family since 2014. As an employee of the City of Omaha Public Works Department, he began his union leadership as Vice President of Local 251 in 2016. Two years later, he was elected president of local 251. With a focus on recruitment and strong representation the membership has increased by 35% over his term. Today local 251 is the largest civilian bargaining group with more than 66% strong and growing.  With support of local leadership and state officials local 251 has fostered new partnerships throughout the state of Nebraska. Tony has always glorified Local 251 as the sleeping giant and uses the slogan " United We Bargain or Divided We Beg"  to ensure all members have a voice in our union.
