About Us
We are NPE/AFSCME
Since 1942, Nebraska Public Employees has stood strong for the people who keep our communities running. Chartered on May 26, 1942, we began as the City of Omaha Employees Union, Local 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). That same day, we were also chartered as Nebraska Public Employees, Local 251, to represent municipal employees across the state not yet covered by a union.
Today, we proudly represent public service workers from Dakota County, Douglas County Youth Center, the City of Fremont, Grand Island, Harlan, Nemaha County, North Platte, the Omaha Housing Authority, Otoe County, Pawnee County, Sarpy County, South Sioux City, and civilian employees serving the City of Omaha.
Through every generation, Nebraska Public Employees has never wavered from our mission: to empower working people to stand together, speak up for one another, and build strong, thriving communities across Nebraska.
